Sugar Cookie Recipes and Tips

I love making these simple and cute cookies for my girls whenever there is a holiday.

They aren’t perfect or professional looking but they are very easy to make! And the more you make them, the better you get at decorating them.

I had grand plans of filming a full YouTube video on my process but that is proving to be a pipe dream. 😅

I thought I’d do the next best thing by pointing you to the experts! Here are the resources that I use and help take the guesswork out of making these adorable cookies.

Sugar Cookies

I use this recipe and use Strawberry Extract in place of vanilla. I also like to roll out my dough before chilling. I just stack them with layers of parchment paper between and chill on a cookie sheet in my fridge for a few hours.

Royal Icing

Using meringue powder is the easiest way to make royal icing! I love all the tips on this website.

Tipless Bags

I prefer to use tipless bags because icing bags and tips stress me out. 😂 This blog post explains what they are and they sell bags as well.

Tip - Use Toothpicks!

I use toothpicks a ton to pop air bubbles and move the icing exactly where I want it.

Tip: Shake!

I also like to gently pick up the cookie and give it a good shake to release any air bubbles and get a smooth finish. This video is full of great decorating tips but look at minute 25:00 for the gentle shake!

Well friend, I hope this post was helpful and that you get the courage to try some decorated sugar cookies this year! Let me know if you do! :)
